Exotic And Tasty Cooling Solutions

It has been quite some time since someone tested the effectiveness of Cheese Whiz as a thermal paste, so it is high time we revisited it.  Slashdot has linked to a review which tried out a variety of thermal interface materials which included regular thermal paste, cheese, ketchup, toothpaste, diaper rash ointment, and even potatoes.  Needless to say not all were effective, but until you prove it how can anyone really know?

Sadly they didn’t try a high end part, instead opting to use a more modest Radeon R7 240 with a 30W TDP during a five minute run of Furmark.  Out of the more interesting choices, the toothpaste and ketchup were the best, and while most of the other tasty comestibles didn’t combust, they also lead to thermal throttling.

Check out the full results, which do include proper thermal pastes and pads by following the link from Slashdot.
